GIS is one of the most advanced information technologies, modern computer techniques, innovative software developments, non-traditional approaches.

Remote sensing and global positioning systems becoming more common and sometimes appear in most unexpected areas of human activity. The growth potential of geographic information systems and new technologies is now inexhaustible.

GIS is a technology, which, in fact, combines digital image processing and computer graphics with databases technology.

It allows researcher or practitioner to perform a wide range of activities related to information receipt, processing, storage and analysis. These technologies are characterized by high flexibility and accessibility to different specialists.

The future is in GIS technologies with elements of artificial intelligence based on the integration of GIS and expert systems. The advantages of this combination are clear: an expert system will contain expert knowledge in a particular area and can be used as a decisive or advising system.

The need for expert systems integrated with GIS is particularly acute in aerospace information deciphering. Until recently such information was not available to mass markets because of security limitations and the lack of hardware and software for processing. Computer Analysis of aerospace information was a prerogative of solid industrial centers which had special equipment. Nowadays main tools necessary for aerospace information processing and analysis can be accommodated on a normal desk. This will increase the number of people using aerospace remote sensing; will promote the wide implementation of aerospace data in the application fields of science and industry.

The current status of new computer geotechnol ogies is determined by large government programs, foreign investments oriented to the wide use of aerial and satellite imagery, digital mapping, imaging databases.

The basis for the creation and development of the land inventory across the country is political and economic conditions of the state, the need to guarantee to individuals and companies land owning, ensuring taxes collection. This is a computer database that stores information about each landowner with more characteristic of its land and real estate, as well as information on air and sea vessels, condition and use of natural resources, engineering, and ecology.

This system is in constant evolution. Modern technologies are extremely expanding the area of persons and professions that use electronic cartographical information. Most of all it is necessary for those who make serious decisions associated with accurate measurements, design, navigation, using GIS.

Lawyer specializing in real estate transactions also appear a need for use of land cadastre. That is why the creation of educational and training GIS systems, the approval of national standards for the specialization "GIS" for preparation of bachelors and masters is the priority area. These professionals are required in the administrative and management divisions; for land management and cadastre; in the design and construction companies; in architectural management organizations and organization of environmental protection.

Graduate departments of the profession are the department of Geoinformatics and Geodesy. It leads about 60% of the course in GIS.
